The project of Nikolay Yudin won the RFFS's Research Grant

The Russian Fund of Fundamental Studies announced the list of the winners of the 2018 competition. One of them is the project of the CSDS Research Fellow Nikolay Yudin entitled ''The concept of power as an analytical tool for studying international relations in a changing global context'' (project №18-311-00088)

The project is aimed at elaborating a scholarly definition of power as a tool for applied analysis of contemporary issues of world politics on the basis of materialistic theoretical and methodological foundations.

In order to achieve this aim it is necessary to address two large and closely interrelated research tasks. On the one hand the research will require critical examination of major approaches towards the definition of the notion of power in international relations in terms of their capabilities for applied analysis of the contemporary international relations. On the other hand it will be necessary to identify new developments in power relations in international arena, their content and nature.

The research project includes plans to examine both the evolution of theoretical approaches within the Russian and Western studies on power and the present state of the research field; to develop a novel taxonomy of existing definitions of power; to assess the impact of the current transformation of the international relations system on the essence and forms of power relations between different types of actors; to develop a working framework to operationalize the concept of power, and finally to try to forecast possible developments in the sphere of power relations in the context of global transformations.

The project outputs will be published in a series of papers in peer-reviewed editions (indexed in the RSCI, Web of Science and Scopus)
