Publication ethics

Editor’s and publisher’s ethics

  • “Lomonosov World Politics Journal” adheres to the norms generally accepted by the international academic community and the Code of conduct and Best Practice Guidelines developed by the Committee on Publication Ethics. The journal responsibly maintains its academic reputation and ensures the quality of publications with respect to the author’s point of view and copyright regardless of the author’s status.

  • The Editor decides upon publishing manuscripts based on their proficiency and quality regardless of race, sex, nationality, citizenship, ideology, political or religious beliefs of the Author.

  • The Editor assures that all publications are free of charge. Any attempt to offer a financial reward on behalf of the Author or interested parties will lead to immediate rejection of the manuscript.

  • The Editor doesn’t elicit plagiarism in submitted manuscripts. The decision on whether to consider a borrowed fragment a case of plagiarism is taken solely by the court. However, each submitted manuscript is subject to evaluation which is aimed to assess its originality with appropriate software.

  • The Editor publishes academic articles as well as expert commentaries by direct participants of world affairs. It also accepts review essays and reviews of the latest works in international relations. The Journal publishes only original academic papers which have not been previously published and do not contain extensive, verbatim and unattributed quotations.

  • The Editor accepts and considers articles and reviews written by scholars and researchers from Russian and foreign universities, expert institutions and international organizations. The Editor also welcomes manuscripts prepared by Ph.D. candidates from Russian and foreign universities.

  • No parts of the manuscripts are used for personal purposes or disclosed to third parties without a written consent of the Author.

  • All manuscripts are subject to confidential peer-reviewing where neither the Author nor the Reviewer knows each other’s identity.

  • The Editor chooses reviewers with an intention to avoid any conflict of interest or subjective evaluation. The Editor assumes that each reviewer adheres to the principles of peer-review ethics.

  • The Editor assumes that each author submitting a manuscript has agreed to act in accordance with the author’s publication ethics and the principles of peer-review process established in the Journal.

  • The Editorial board oversees the compliance with publication ethics.

  • Any critical editing of the manuscript is coordinated with the Author. In case of objection both parties have the right to terminate the publication process.

  • Discovery of any case of ethics violation leads to the rejection of the manuscript at any stage of the publication process.

Peer-review publication ethics

  • The Reviewer carries out an expert evaluation of submitted materials. His actions are to be impartial.

  • Peer-review process is strictly confidential with neither the Author nor the Reviewer knowing each other’s identity.

  • The review is to contain an accurate and objective assessment of the manuscript and to provide a comprehensive analysis of its scholarly and methodological strengths and weaknesses. Criticism ad hominem is unacceptable.

  • The Reviewer evaluates the manuscript based on its novelty and relevance. The Reviewer is also to determine whether the manuscript helps expand research in the subject area and the extent on which it builds upon existing scholarly work in the field.

  • The Reviewer is an expert in the respective field of international relations. The Reviewer who does not consider himself competent in the field must notify the Editor requesting to withdraw from peer-reviewing of the manuscript.

  • A research supervisor of a Ph.D. candidate cannot be the Reviewer of his mentee’s manuscript.

  • In case of a conflict of interest the Reviewer must notify the Editor requesting to withdraw from peer-reviewing of the manuscript.

  • The Reviewer must not use the manuscript’s data for personal purposes before it has been published.

  • The manuscript under review is a confidential document and must not be disclosed to third parties for further review or discussion.

Author’s publication ethics

  • The Author assumes full responsibility for the novelty and reliability of his scholarly research. Authors must ensure the results presented in the manuscript are reliable, i.e. their work does not contain deliberately erroneous or fraudulent assertions.

  • The Author submitting the manuscript adheres to the principles of publication ethics.

  • The Author submitting the manuscript follows submission guidelines. Manuscripts ignoring submission guidelines will be rejected.

  • Authors must guarantee the results of their research are strictly original. Borrowed fragments or assertions are properly cited with an obligatory indication of the author and the original source. Excessive borrowing or plagiarism are unethical and unacceptable.

  • Authors must not submit manuscripts which are under consideration in other journals or manuscripts previously published in other journals. Submitting one manuscript to two or more journals concurrently is unethical.

  • Contribution of all persons that somehow influenced the course of the research must be adequately reflected. The manuscript should contain references to the works that mattered during the research.

  • All persons who contributed significantly to the research must be listed as co-authors. Persons who have not participated in the research must not be listed.

  • All co-authors must confirm their consent to publication by signing either a license agreement or the manuscript.

  • If the manuscript has been prepared in the framework of the research sponsored by an organization, authors should provide a corresponding link and indicate the source of funding.

  • The Editor is not liable to any third party for any violation of guarantees that were given by the Author.

  • The Author should not expect a compensation for the submitted manuscript.

  • If the Author finds substantial errors or inaccuracies in the article at the stage of review or after its publication, the Editor must be promptly notified.

Retraction guidelines

  • In some cases the Editorial Board may consider retracting a publication.
  • The reasons for retraction may be the following:

– It contains illegal/improper use of intellectual property,  including borrowed pictures, tables, diagrams, etc.;

– The findings have previously been published elsewhere before the date of its publication in the journal;

– The published paper has serious errors, which place its academic value in question.

  • In such cases the Editor should initiate the revision, after which the paper may be retracted. The Act on retraction is signed by the Editor-in-Chief. The copy of the Act is being sent to the author of the paper.
  • In this case the paper is not physically withdrawn from the published edition and the file of the issue on web site. The Editorial Board publishes the notification on retraction of the paper on the corresponding page of the issue content on the official site of the Journal.
